The Fraser Coast Orchestra has been creating beautiful music since the end of 2024. We are passionate about sharing our music throughout the region; bringing joy to our audiences and offering professional development opportunities for our members.
The FCO performs two high-quality concert events each calendar year, generally occurring in May and September. Events are held either in Maryborough or Hervey Bay, and the majority of rehearsals take place at Maryborough State High School. As this is a seasonal orchestra, we rehearse only in the 6-8 week lead up to each concert - the rehearsal schedule includes a few evening practices, plus a weekend workshop.
Members are expected to learn their parts outside of rehearsal time, to maximise the short rehearsal process.
Our performing membership base is quite varied; ranging from semi-professional musicians, to instrumental music teachers, talented amateur musicians and several high school students. Almost all of our members live within the Fraser Coast region, however we do have some musicians who travel from Bundaberg, Sunshine Coast and Brisbane areas to join us for rehearsals and concerts.
The suggested minimum standards are as follows (some flexibility may apply depending on demand and the instrument chosen):
* Strings - Grade 4 AMEB level or equivalent
* Woodwind / Brass - Grade 8 AMEB level or equivalent
* Percussion / Harp / Piano - Grade 6 AMEB level or equivalent
